Meet Jenny!

Executive Director & Sailor

WHY DID YOU JOIN SB?
I was looking for a way to exercise my values and meet like-minded people in my neighborhood. I saw the name “Sustainable Ballard” and it resonated with me.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MEMBER OF SB?
20 years

WHAT WAS THE FIRST SB EVENT/PROGRAM YOU ATTENDED?
I attended the very first “Sustainable Ballard Fair” at Bergen Place, followed by the first public meeting along with 60 other people. It was a little idea with big appeal. Since then I’ve played many roles with Sustainable Ballard over the years; first as project lead for the Food, Health & Medicine Guild, then Vice-President, then President and now Executive Director. Also, Festival Planner since Year 2!

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF SB?
I love being part of a community that cares about the earth and the role we all play in the “big picture.” I am particularly inspired by all of the community support that we are able to provide, despite being a volunteer-powered organization.

SHARE A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF
My mid-life passion is sailing. My partner and I bought a boat about 8 years ago and I have learned a ton since then. We both come from sailing families, but while he has been sailing all his life, I was busy with other pursuits when my family was getting really into it. Now with our new boat we have been racing quite a bit and lately I’ve been Skipper for the Women at the Helm races at Shilshole.
