Market Gleaning
Ballard Farmer’s Market Produce for the Ballard Food Bank
We collect donations of food from the Sunday Ballard Farmers Market, which operates year-round. We collect extra produce from the Ballard Farmers Market vendors at the end of each Sunday’s market and deliver it to the nearby Ballard Food Bank, thus supplying hungry folks with fresh, local and generally organic produce. It’s fun and makes a tangible difference!
Volunteers Welcome!
The commitment is from 1:45 pm to 4:00 pm on Sundays. We’d like to build our volunteer group so that everyone commits to just one Sunday a month, but we’ll work with whatever schedule works for you. If you are interested in helping with the gleaning project on Sundays, 1:45pm – 4:00pm, email Jill with the subject line “New Gleaning Volunteer.”
Last year, volunteers processed 15,458 pounds of produce from the Market to the Ballard Food Bank. Thanks to the generosity of the farmers and the time and energy of the Gleaning Team, all this food was diverted from the compost pile and into the shopping baskets of the Food Bank. Many thanks to our team of volunteers and high school student helpers!
