Mending services at the Ballard Food Bank on Thursdays from 11 am-1 pm where work space and a sewing machine are already available. On Wednesday evenings we can be found at Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ from 6 – 8 pm. As the pool of menders increases, other sites may be added.
Mending is a key part of sustainability, reducing both waste and purchases. For people without many resources, menders can be a sign of community support.
Since the new Ballard Food Bank opened and for quite a while before that at other sites, Jody Grage has mended clothing, pack straps, etc. for homeless and low-income clients once a week. Now Jody will lead a new project – Ballard Menders – engaging additional menders since she will be out of town frequently.
