Meals with Neighbors is Seeking Volunteers!
At Sustainable Ballard, we believe, for a society to be sustainable, each of its members must have access to wholesome food and safe shelter, and be treated with dignity. Meals with Neighbors responds to this vision by connecting people over hot, healthy meals and conversation.
The program includes dinner every Sunday at 5pm, at Ballard First Lutheran Church, and weekday breakfasts at St. Luke’s. Sustainable Ballard provides volunteers on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays and any/all days for breakfast. All are welcome to attend, and volunteers help prepare and cook the meal, serve to guests, and clean up.
From Camilla, our Meals with Neighbors Project Lead:
Recently, I volunteered as a greeter with my mom at Sunday Dinner. Together, we welcomed over 50 guests to the dinner, and then sat down to eat with some of our neighbors. Talking about it after, my mom, Michelle Cranwell said, “I didn’t know what to expect as it was my first time volunteering.”
She said, “It was a real meaningful experience as a greeter to be able to say hello and look into the eyes and connect with my neighbors – I don’t have an opportunity to do that everyday and it gave me a better understanding of the lives and experiences in our community. Meals bring people together.”
It was fun to volunteer with my mom, and get to share this experience with her – sign up with a friend, family member, or neighbor, and connect your community to larger Ballard!
Please email Camilla for more information, or to sign up to volunteer!
