Help create the community you want to live in when you are older – Volunteer Training Jan 14

The PNA Village is partnering with Sustainable Ballard to raise awareness, grow membership of all ages, and recruit volunteers to help elders. The PNA Village is a strong and active intergenerational community that offers older people opportunities, combined with support, to fully engage in this phase of life. Village volunteers provide services like transportation; help with small projects in and around the home, and share social interaction.

On Saturday, January 14th, 3pm-4pm at the Phinney Center Blue Building (6532 Phinney Ave N), the Village is holding an informational happy hour where you can learn about volunteering, which is flexible and easy with volunteers choosing when and how to help their neighbors.

One program of the Village is Health Advocacy. In partnership with the Washington State Health Advocacy Association (WASHAA.org), the PNA Village is offering a free training to volunteers who wish to become volunteer health advocates. This training is geared toward non-medical volunteers who want to make a difference by supporting Village members with specific health advocacy tasks such as: gathering medical records, discussing health care needs, creating a list of questions for the doctor, attending and taking notes at a doctor visit, and helping members research credible medical information. An orientation and training will happen in February.
