Mighty O's Opening Aug 14-16 = Super!

It’s a bird, it’s a plane – actually, it’s a brand new Mighty-O donut café opening in Ballard! The Seattle-based company, which is known city-wide for their Super Delicious made-from-scratch all-organic donuts, is opening their second storefront on the corner of NW Market and 17^th. For their grand opening weekend Friday, August 14^th – Sunday, August 16^th, they are inviting the community for a super special celebration. From Super Mom to Super Man, everyone who attends the weekend-long event will receive a free donut. Plus, those dressed as their favorite superhero will be entered to win a donut a day for a year.

“Our customers are our superheroes—they’re the reason we are here and we can’t thank them enough,” said founder Ryan Kellner. “We are excited to celebrate the grand opening of our new Ballard café with our community and look forward to giving away as many free donuts as possible for everyone to enjoy.”

In fact, the Mighty-O community is so strong, they came together to purchase the final and most critical piece of equipment for the new café—the donut robot—who is ready to save Seattle’s taste buds by providing a super delicious, better-for-you version of everyone’s favorite treat. While most donuts are made from a pre-mix of ingredients loaded with preservatives and fillers, Mighty-O donuts are made-from-scratch using all organic, non-GMO and plant-based ingredients that are individually sourced.

“It’s important to us that our donuts not only taste good, but do good,” said Kellner. “That includes being cholesterol free, pesticide and chemical free, and working to support sustainability and community causes.”

Mighty-O will continue to serve the widest selection of organic donuts in the region, including traditional favorites like the Cinni-Minis, frosted cake donut and Apple Fritter as well as famed originals like the Coffee Bomb, French Toast and Lemon Poppy. And just like its Wallingford store, Mighty-O’s Ballard café is committed to sustainability and its community, supporting local farmers, achieving zero waste, donating all leftovers to the homeless, and more.

The 2,500 sq. foot café was designed to be a welcoming hangout and will seat 50 inside and 8 to16 outside, plus be among the first group of cafes in Seattle to offer its community a dedicated parklet on the street. With a nod to the neighborhood’s roots, Mighty-O turned to Seattle architecture firm ZeroPlus to design a space inspired by a maritime and industrial aesthetic. The shop also features a large exhibition bakery so onlookers can watch donuts being made from scratch, and anyone in the community is invited to join a behind-the-scenes tour. 

What’s next? In 2015, Mighty-O will also open its third café, joining the Capitol Hill community by taking over High 5 Pie’s location on Madison and 12^th as the pie shop moves to a larger commercial kitchen.
