“My biggest RainWise surprise: I thought I’d want to screen the big cisterns, but now I’m proud to show them off!”

“Ever since I joined Sustainable Ballard about six years ago, I’ve been sustainable-izing my home and life on all fronts – replacing lawn with edible gardens, plugging energy leaks, re-upping my commitment to living car-free, planting more fruit trees. Getting RainWise was a natural next step!

I decided to really go for it. My RainWise installation captures rain water from my whole house as well as from my carport and garage – over 2000 square feet of roof area. I have a rain garden that’s fed by four cisterns, and with a fifth cistern out back, I’m capturing over 1,400 gallons.

Why capture all that water? I can use it to water my gardens in the summer, and it’s great for emergency preparedness, too.

RainWise is a win-win-win, and I’m happy to be part of the Ballard RainWise family!
