Tilth Alliance Class: All About Composting – Mar 18

Composting 101

Composting 2This outdoor, hands-on class will show you how to create rich compost using food, livestock and yard waste. Compost is fundamental to organic vegetable gardening and will improve and enliven any type of garden soil. Compost can be expensive to purchase — create it for free using materials many of us have at home or in our neighborhoods!

In this class you will:
·         Learn fundamentals about how compost is made from organisms breaking down organic matter
·         Take a tour of various compost systems so you can discover which might be right for you
·         Compare yard waste compost to food waste compost and look inside a worm bin
·         Practice building a hot compost pile using a number of organic materials including livestock manure

We will be building a hot compost pile in class, so dress for messy materials and get ready to make “black gold!”
