Ballard Menders
Mending is a key part of sustainability, reducing both waste and purchases. For people without many resources, menders can be a sign of community support. Since the new Ballard Food Bank opened and for quite a while before that at other sites, Jody Grage has mended clothing, pack straps, etc. for homeless and low-income clients once a week. Now Jody will lead a new project – Ballard Menders – since she will be out of town frequently.
The initial project for SB Menders will be supplementing the availability of mending services at the Ballard Food Bank on Fourth Thursdays from 11-1 where work space and a sewing machine are already available. As the pool of menders increases, other sites may be added.
