Winter Gleaning Still Impressive
The Farmer’s Market Gleaners collected 1500 lbs of produce this month for the Ballard Food Bank! The winter months are leaner as far as produce goes, but our volunteer team still collected and sorted 1500 lbs of kale, leeks, potatoes, pointed cabbage, rutabagas, bread, and more.

We also had two new volunteers join our team this month. Welcome Bryn and Keenan! Gleaning is a great way to connect with other volunteers, vendors, and the farmers market staff, all while helping to ensure that our neighbors have access to fresh, local produce. If you’re interested in joining us, please email gleanballard@gmail.com.
Just for fun we thought we’d celebrate some of the lesser known veggies we come across during Market Gleaning. If you know the answer please email your answer for a chance to win a raffle prize. You’ll get an additional entry if you share your favorite recipe for our Unusual Veggie of the month!
