From Sustainable Ballard

Hello Neighbors -

Did you know? May is Bike Month! Are you out there riding - dodging raindrops one day, basking in sunshine the next? Visit Cascade Bicycle Club's website for the full bike scoop this month - and check it out, it's not too late to sign up for the Group Health Commute Challenge.

One day to be sure to bike is Bike to Work Day May 15! Then from 4-7pm, come to downtown Ballard where we'll be taking over the streets with a celebration of "all things bicycle." 22nd Ave NW will be closed between NW Market and Ballard Ave NW - and the street and adjoining parks will be filled with car-free activity. This is part of the City's Celebrate Summer Streets campaign - bike, bus, walk, or catapult on down! The Undriver Licensing Station will be there too. (Psst! We could use a couple more Undriving volunteers - email julia AT undriving DOT com if you'd like to join in!)

There's even more bike news to celebrate this month: The first bike rack from Sustainable Ballard's Bike Rack Design Contest just got approved for installation by the Ballard Ave Landmark District Board! Congrats and kudos to project leaders Craig Benjamin and Mark Hulscher, and the rest of the team for dedicated (and patient!) work on this project. Watch for the metal 'rings' bike rack to be installed at NW 22nd and Ballard Ave NW soon (we'll keep you posted on the exact date). Five other creative "destination" bike racks are also in the works!

Thanks for Undriving, this month and every month,

-Julia Field, Undriving Program Director
